Celebs lead the way when it comes to a healthy lifestyle (well not all but most at least!). One particular activity commonplace among them is juicing and not just juices in tetra packs but fresh juicing right at home. Here arises the question, does one really need a juicer to make juice? Can’t a blender do the same if a few precautions are taken?
The thing about blending juices without a juicer is that the process is similar to making nut milk. It can be done using an ordinary blender, in fact an immersion type is alright if it’s all you have or even a food processor. Here are the steps involved.
Get the Ingredients Ready
Start by sourcing fresh organic fruit or vegetables of your choice. It can be lettuce, melon, apples or whatever it is that you prefer. Remember that a blender is different from a juicer and lacks requisite filters and screens. So you will have to filter pulp out manually before getting at the juice.
Hence start by keeping a mesh cloth around. It can also be a cheese cloth, a sprouting bag or even a paint straining bag, all of which are easily available in hardware stores. If you have a funnel at home, you’re going to need it too, and don’t forget plenty of containers to store your juice.
Chop Chop Chop
Chop down your ingredients, fruits, vegetables and whatever else you would like to include in the mix. It doesn’t have to be fine and thorough, just turn them into small pieces that can fit in your blender. Reason being that a blender uses smaller blades than a juicer hence they aren’t great at tackling large ingredients. After chopping, put it in the device and add one cup of water. If you need to, don’t hesitate to add more. As an alternative, you could also add some cream or milk.
Blend
Turn your vegetables or fruits into a puree by pressing the start button. Alternate from low to high and then use the pulse button when required.

Strain
Using your preferred cloth, pour out the contents into a container to remove solids from the mix. This eliminates the dry pulp and other unwanted solids from the actual juice.
Squeeze, squeeze squeeze
Now it’s time for the juicy and fun part. But make sure that you have washed your hands properly first. Using both your hands, squeeze the liquid to produce the pulp. For those who do not know, pulps contain the highest percentage of nutrients in the fruit.
Drink and Enjoy
After having fun squeezing the pulp, you may then transfer the liquid into a tall glass, a classy one if you prefer, and drink to your delight. If you are having difficulty transferring or would love to avoid spilling it, it would be best to use a funnel.
What About The Pulp?
Just because the solids you separated aren’t a part of the juice doesn’t mean they don’t serve any purpose. They can be used for soups, casseroles and even to make cake. By using a blender to juice, you actually recycle everything that a fruit or veggie has to offer including the peel and solid components.
