A blender is one of the most utilized kitchen devices today and life without it seems so hard. However, in order to fully maximize the benefits it can give you, you must know how to take care of it. Here is a simple guide on how to keep your blender looking brand new and optimally performing at all times.
What to Expect
Cleaning your blender is easy. It doesn’t take much time. Ten minutes usually suffices to ensure a spotless cleaning. This can be done during your free time and does not really require expertise on any technical matter.
What You Need
Before you start, there are some items that you need to prepare. You would need a sponge or a dish rag. This will be used to take the dirt out of the container once it is rinsed. Make sure that you also have a mild dish soap. If you prefer to use baking soda as a cleaning agent, it’s fine. In fact, some actually vouch by baking soda and its ability to reach crevices better.
How to Do It
Checking for Stuck Items
Chances are there might be some food stuck on the jar or the blades of your blender. To ensure that there is none, run the blender with some water or baking soda solution inside. Set in low speed then up to high speed. Stop the machine and rinse. Repeat as you deem necessary.
Preparing your blender
With the machine completely turned off and the blades not spinning, take the blender apart. Remove the jar from its base. Unscrew the bottom component and then remove the gasket seal and the blade. It is important to exercise precaution when removing the blade to avoid any injury.
Washing the Blender
Never store anything in the blender jar as glass, steel and plastic all tend to retain a lingering smell. If you accidentally left something inside then blend a 1:1 ratio of baking soda and water to remove the stench. Let it rest for a while and wash the container.
The container is the primary component of the blender and the part you will most of the time devote towards cleaning. Rinse the container and wash it with warm soapy water and a dish rag. Make sure that you have removed any speck dirt that may be sticking to the sides of the container. Rinse it and let it dry. It is better to do it with your hands as it can get damaged or scratched when washed in a dishwasher.
After you are done with the container, you can move on to cleaning the other pieces such as the blade, the gasket seal and the locking ring. Use baking soda or soapy water. Be careful when sponging the blades. Rinse it and let it dry.

Cleaning the Motor
With a dry rag, wipe down the motor/base of the blender. Make sure that the clean rug is completely dry as it may affect the device’s performance. Just wipe it and check for any damage. If there is, call for a repairman.
Reassembling the blender
After all the cleaning, it’s time to put it back together. Make sure that everything is screwed tight and all parts are in their preconceived places. If you use the blender regularly, place it somewhere easily accessible, if it’s reserved for a special occasion, you might want to store it somewhere safer, usually in a cabinet.
