Vitamix 5200 Review
The Vitamix 5200 offers a ton of different speed options!
About the Vitamix 5200
Ease of Use:
This isn’t necessarily the easiest blender in the world to use. First, there are multiple controls, and if you accidentally press one button, you could actually create a catastrophic mess since the wrong button combination can actually boost your spill. Thankfully, cleaning the jar and the blades is a simple process entailing a quick rinse at the highest speed with luke warm soap water. Bye-bye dishwasher!
Motor and Horsepower:
The Vitamix 5200, has a 2 horsepower motor. It is really powerful to the point where it can actually heat soup. Although this process takes about 6 minutes, it is still pretty ingenious to think about. This blender is controlled by variable speed and then some extra high speed options. All-in-all, tons of power at your finger tips.

Noise and Space:
It’s really loud. I mean it has a 2 horsepower motor, and costs almost half a grand, so you can bet it’s going to be rather loud. As far as space you cannot store this in a cabinet with the jar attached. If you do want to store it, we recommend storing the jar side by side with the blender.
Nevertheless, at times size does come handy especially when preparing a large serving for a party or such. As for the ruckus it creates, all we can say is – you will warm up to its boisterous nature as you start discovering all its amazing capabilities.
Options and Features:
The Vitamix 5200 offers a ton of different speed options. One of the cool features is its easy to clean lid thanks to its removable design. The lid is also interesting because it can also double as a measuring cup, taking the guess work out of your recipes. The blender does come with an on/off button, something we sorely missed in other brands and models. The only thing is that the speed options can be rather complex to use if you’re not used to using blenders. One thing that we’ve noticed is that the blender can actually heat food. In order to turn solids into heated liquids such as soups; you will have to use the variable speed options, all elaborately explained in the accompanying DVD and instruction manual.

Warranty & Service:
The Vitamix 5200 is host to a 7 year warranty. This is one of the best that we’ve seen on BlenderCritics yet and this alone can make your investment worthwhile. Would you rather have one extremely powerful blender for 7 years, or a ton of low quality weak blenders for the better part of the decade? That’s an easy choice to make, which is why we rated this extremely high!
Conclusion:
Overall it is a really powerful machine that has a ton of potential, but it does fail in execution in some areas. For example, it does not have the ability to crush ice very well and it can be extremely loud. It’s better to blend soup and heat it on the stove than to endure 6 minutes of a lawnmower like blender, at least we think so.
So coming down to the most important question – does it justify a hefty price tag? We believe it does. Just the technology and quality coupled with a long warranty more than justifies the price of the Vitamix 5200. Hence, if pricing is not an issue to you, then it is definitely better than your standard, economical blender.
